Many customers face the dilemma of “overwhelming specifications and hard-to-balance costs” when selecting a crane. But by addressing just three key questions, the right choice becomes much clearer. Let’s break it down.
1. Lifting Capacity
The most common lifting range is between 1 ton and 20 tons, although some cranes can handle up to 32 tons or even more. However, if you need a crane that exceeds 20 tons, it’s generally a good idea to consider a double-beam crane.
2. Duty Class
This refers to how often and how heavily the crane will be used. The duty class generally ranges from A1 to A7, with A1 being light duty and A7 being heavy-duty.
3. Budget
Your budget also plays a big role in the decision-making process. Generally speaking, a single-beam crane will cost less than a double-beam crane.

At Tianheng Kerry, as crane manufacturers, we’ve worked with countless cases and suppliers. From experience, we’ve found that 20 tons is a critical threshold. For lifting loads of 20 tons or more, we typically recommend a double-beam bridge crane. However, when the load is less than 20 tons and the span is between 7.5 and 22.5 meters, with a duty class between A1 and A5, we often recommend the Chunhua LD single-beam crane.
The LD crane (Electric Single-Beam Bridge Crane) is a simple, cost-effective, and flexible crane that suits general material handling needs. It’s typically made with an I-beam or welded box-type single beam and is ideal for mid-range (≤20 tons), medium span, and moderate-duty material handling. It's widely used in industries such as manufacturing, warehousing, logistics, and maintenance.
The LD single-beam crane is lightweight, which means it requires less load-bearing capacity from the building and minimal space. It’s easy to operate, install, and maintain, and it covers a broad working area. The technology is mature, and the reliability is high, making it a top choice for most customers when considering cost-effectiveness.
However, the LD single-beam crane isn’t suitable for extremely high-intensity, continuous operation. Customers with high-duty-cycle needs should carefully consider other options.
