What is the reason why the temperature of the electric hoist of the bridge crane is too high?

2025-08-07

The electric hoist of a bridge crane may be overheating during operation. What causes this? As a crane manufacturer, we'd like to share some of the causes of overheating in electric hoists:

1.Causes of Overheating in Electric Hoists

Bearings Overtightened or Underlubricated: The bearings of an electric hoist are responsible for supporting the weight of the object being lifted. If the bearings are overtightened or underlubricated, friction increases, leading to high temperatures and increased wear on the hoist.

Frequent Starting and Stopping: Frequently starting and stopping the hoist over a long period of time can overload the hoist motor, causing elevated temperatures and damaging the motor and other components.

Cable Damage: The hoist cable is a core component for transmitting electrical energy. Damage to the cable can cause unstable current flow, generate electromagnetic waves, and exacerbate temperature increases.

Excessive or Poor Ambient Temperature: If the hoist is exposed to high temperatures for a long period of time or has poor heat dissipation, it can cause the hoist to overheat.

      2. Preventive Measures

Bearings should be properly tightened and adequately lubricated to reduce friction.

Reduce the frequency of starting and stopping the electric hoist. Centralized or remote control systems can be used to minimize impacts on the hoist.

Perform regular maintenance and inspection of cables. If damaged, replace or repair them promptly. Strengthen monitoring and protection of the power supply system to ensure proper operation of the hoist.

When using the electric hoist in high-temperature environments, ensure proper heat dissipation and ventilation, and avoid excessive use to reduce the possibility of overheating.

The entire crane design should meet standard requirements. Select high-quality hoists and equipment, conduct regular inspections, and promptly replace aging and damaged components and equipment.
